Culinary Uses
Bay leaves are typically used whole to flavour soups, stews, sauces, curries, and roasted meats. To use them, simply add 1–2 dried leaves into your dish early during cooking and let them simmer, allowing their aromatic oils to infuse into the food; always remember to remove the leaves before serving, as they remain stiff even after cooking. You can also steep dried bay leaves in hot water for 5–10 minutes to make a calming herbal tea, optionally adding honey or lemon for flavour.
Storage: To store Bay Dried Leaves Handpicked properly, keep them in an airtight container, preferably a glass jar, placed in a cool, dark, and dry area away from direct sunlight and moisture. Stored this way, bay leaves can retain their flavour and aroma for about 12 months or even longer; crushing them slightly before use can help release more of their essential oils if they’ve aged.
