Black tea is the most widely consumed type of tea in the world. It is made from the leaves of a shrub called Camellia sinensis. The leaves of black tea are allowed to oxidize in a humid and warm atmosphere, thus acquiring the bronze or black color from which they get their name.

Yunnan black tea, also known as ‘Dianhong’ (‘Dian’ is the short name for Yunnan province, ‘hong’ meaning red after the deep, red liquor of the brewed tea) is a fully oxidised tea grown high in the mountainous region of Lincang between 1680-1900 metres above sea level.

Offering a delicate smokiness on the nose and tongue, Yunnan has layers of caramel and cocoa with light, peppery notes on the finish.

To make an infusion, place 1-2 teaspoons of dried herb in a tea infuser or teapot or mug for each cup of tea you intend to brew. Cover with boiling water. Place on the lid (or cover your cup with a saucer). Allow the mixture to steep for 10' to 15' minutes or overnight. Then strain the tea and serve. Drink 1-3 cups of tea a day. Add if you want honey, milk or lemon wedge for flavour. To heighten first steep flavors, rinse the leaves briefly with boiling water, pour off, let the leaves steam for a few minutes and re-infuse.
Yunnan black tea is generally considered safe to use short - term, but high consumption has been linked to serious side effects such as Fast breathing, Headache, Increased urination, Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), Nausea, Nervousness and anxiety, Ringing / buzzing in the ears, trembling. Also consuming black tea at the same time as other caffeinated foods can cause some serious effects such as tremors, high blood pressure, changes in heart rate, seizures, and fainting spells.. In any case you should consult with your healthcare doctor before using any herb especially if you’re taking other medications or having health problems.
