Quinine is a natural substance removed from the bark of the medicinal plant “Cinchona Pubescens “, also known as quina, quineira, red chichona, Peruvian bark or Jesuit bark. Quinine is an essential component in natural medicines, and can be used as a digestive stimulant and a tonic for the remedy of illnesses like indigestion.
It is also used for treating amoebic infections, dysentery, dyspepsia, diarrhea, lumbago, malaria, pneumonia, sciatica, varicose veins, hangovers and even typhoid.
In the European natural medicine systems, cinchona bark can be used as a bitter tonic, antiprotozoal, antispasmodic, and as a fever reducer. It’s also useful for managing irregular heartbeats, anaemia, muscle and leg cramps, and as an anaesthetic in some situations.
