Description

Latin Name: Quercus Robur L.

Origin Country: Luxembourg

Quercus robur L., commonly known as English oak or pedunculate oak, is native to Europe, parts of Asia, and North Africa. This tree is widely recognized for its longevity and strength. The tree is also known for its deep-rooted cultural symbolism, representing endurance, stability, and wisdom.  The bark, leaves, and acorns of Quercus robur have been used in traditional medicine. The flavour of Quercus robur bark is bitter and tannic, due to the high concentration of tannins, which give it an astringent taste.

Benefits

– Quercus robur has high tannin content, making it useful for treating diarrhoea and digestive issues.

– Oak bark has been traditionally used to strengthen the gums and treat mouth sores or throat infections when used as a gargle.

– English oak bark has also been used in aromatherapy and herbal preparations for their grounding and calming properties.

– English Oak Tea

Bring 1 cup of water to a boil in a kettle or saucepan. Place 1-2 teaspoons of dried oak bark into a teapot, cup, or small saucepan. Once the water has boiled, pour it over the oak bark. Allow the tea to steep for about 10-15 minutes. The longer it steeps, the stronger the flavour and medicinal properties will be. Add honey, lemon, or other flavourings if desired to balance out the natural bitterness of the oak bark.

You can drink 1-2 cups per day, depending on your health needs and tolerance.

Oral Use

Bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add 1-2 teaspoons of dried oak bark to the boiling water. Allow the oak bark to steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain the mixture to remove the bark pieces. Let the liquid cool down to a comfortable temperature for gargling or mouth rinsing. Take a sip of the oak bark solution, then gargle for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or rinse your mouth thoroughly. You can repeat this several times a day.

– Oak bark is generally considered safe in moderate doses.

– Prolonged or excessive use of oak bark tea may lead to stomach irritation, nausea, digestive discomfort or constipation.

– Individuals with allergies to oak bark may experience allergic reactions such as skin rashes or respiratory discomfort.

– Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare professional before using Quercus robur.
