Latin Name: Ferula Gummosa
Common Names: Ferula galbaniflua or Ferula rubricaulis.
Origin Country: Iran
Galbanum Resin is a natural aromatic gum obtained from the plant Ferula gummosa, a member of the Apiaceae family native to regions of Iran, Central Asia, and the Middle East. This thick, sticky resin is collected by making incisions in the base of the plant’s stem, from which the sap exudes and hardens. Galbanum has a distinctive earthy, green, and musky scent, with sharp balsamic undertones that make it a valued ingredient in natural perfumery and incense making. The resin has been used for centuries in various cultures, primarily for its aromatic qualities and skincare properties. Today, it is still used in aromatherapy and cosmetics.
– Aromatherapy
Light a charcoal disc and place it on an incense burner or heatproof dish. Wait until the charcoal disc turns grey and starts to smoke. Place a small piece of galbanum resin on the charcoal. The resin will start to melt and release a fragrant smoke. The aroma is earthy, balsamic, and calming, perfect for meditation or relaxation.
– Facemask
Add about ½ to 1 teaspoon of galbanum resin to a tablespoon of oil. Gently heat the mixture in a double boiler for about 10–15 minutes, ensuring the resin melts into the oil. Let it cool before using. In a small bowl, combine 1–2 teaspoons of the galbanum-infused oil with 1 tablespoon of clay powder. Add 1 teaspoon of honey for extra moisture. Cleanse your face thoroughly with a gentle cleanser. Apply the mask evenly to your face, avoiding the eye area. Leave the mask on for about 10–15 minutes or until it dries slightly. Gently rinse off the mask with lukewarm water.
Storage: Keep galbanum resin in a tightly sealed, non‑metallic container stored in a cool, dry, and dark place; protecting it from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight preserves its aroma and prevents the resin from hardening or becoming sticky.
