Description

Latin Name: Annona Muricata

Annona Muricata also known as soursop or graviola is a broadleaf, flowering, evergreen tree. It is native to the tropical regions of the Americas and the Caribbean and is widely propagated. It is in the same genus, Annona, as cherimoya and is in the Annonaceae family. With an aroma similar to pineapple, the flavour of the fruit has been described as a combination of strawberries and apple with sour citrus flavour notes, contrasting with an underlying thick creamy texture reminiscent of banana.

Benefits

– Soursop contains a high amount of vitamin C, which is essential for strengthening the immune system. It also helps to enhance the body’s defence mechanisms.

– The fruit and its leaves have anti-inflammatory effects, which may help reduce inflammation associated with conditions like respiratory issues and gastrointestinal disorders.

– The fruit is known for its ability to soothe the digestive system as it may help alleviate digestive issues like constipation, bloating, and indigestion.

– The leaves and bark of the soursop tree are sometimes used in traditional medicine for pain relief, especially for conditions like headaches, muscle aches, and joint pain.

– Graviola is rich in antioxidants which help combat free radicals in the body, reducing oxidative stress and preventing cellular damage.
