The plant features oval-shaped, green leaves with a slightly hairy texture and small, yellowish flowers arranged in clusters. Gymnema sylvestre is often called as the “sugar destroyer” due to its unique ability to suppress the taste of sweetness. The name originates from the herb’s primary active compounds, known as gymnemic acids, which interact with the taste buds.
