Latin Name: Tabebuia Impetiginosa

Origin Country: Brazil

Lapacho (also known as “Taheebo”) is a Herbal Tea originating from South America. Unlike many other infusions, most of which derive from leaves (including South American Yerba Mate), Lapacho Tea comes from bark! Specifically, it’s the product of inner bark from the pau d’arco tree (Handroanthus impetiginosus), thriving deep within the Amazon rainforest.

There are several Lapacho medicinal uses. Some of the most important are:

  • Antimicrobial/antifungal : Lapachol an active component of Pau D’arco has been shown to be effective against bacteria s. In addition, lapachol has quite a significant effect on candida by breaking down its cell walls and structure.
  • Anti-inflammatory – Arthritis: Applied topically, lapachol reduces inflammation in skin injuries and psoriasis. Inhibitory effects on histamine releasing cells lead to a reduction in inflammatory processes. Taken internally, Pau D’arco can calm gastritis and reduce swelling in joints.
  • Analgesic: Lapacho is an effective pain reliever. It is shown to be effective in the pain management of conditions, such as arthritis with a number of testimonials online to support this. Some of its anti-inflammatory actions can be attributed to its ability to also reduce pain.
  • Antioxidant : Due to Lapacho tea’s antimicrobial effects, the chances of contracting a medical condition is highly reduced. It also helps to strengthen the immune system against flus and colds. Lapacho inhibits the formation of free-radicals, which damage cells and accelerate the aging process. Pau D’arco is considered to have potent antioxidant properties.

Decoction: In a pot, bring 3 cups of cold water, 3-4 teaspoons of the to a simmer. Gently decoct (simmer) for 30 minutes. Strain out herbs and return liquid to pot. . Drink 1-3 cups of tea a day Add if you want one spoonful of honey at a time and dissolve over very low heat until you reach desired sweetness.
Although Lapacho is generally considered safe to use medicinally, consuming more than the recommended dosage may cause severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and internal bleeding. In any case you should consult with your healthcare doctor before using any herb especially if you have health problems.
