Glycyrrhiza glabra L., commonly known as licorice, is a perennial plant native to parts of Europe and Asia. The plant’s root is the most used part for both culinary and medicinal purposes, prized for its sweet flavour. Licorice has a distinct sweet taste, which is much stronger than sugar, due to the presence of glycyrrhizin. Licorice is often used in teas, herbal remedies, and confections.
