Althaea officinalis, commonly known as marshmallow, is a perennial herb native to Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa. Althaea officinalis, or marshmallow, is a member of the Malvaceae family. The plant features soft, downy leaves and pale pink or white flowers. Marshmallow herb mostly used in teas ad it has a mild, somewhat earthy, and slightly sweet flavour. Historically, marshmallow herb was also an ingredient in the confectionery marshmallows, though modern versions are made with gelatine.
