Description

Latin Name: Ascophyllum Nodosum

Origin Country: Canada

Organic Canadian kelp typically refers to wild-harvested Ascophyllum nodosum, a nutrient-rich brown seaweed found along the cold Atlantic coastlines of eastern Canada, especially in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. It grows naturally in intertidal zones, where it is sustainably hand-harvested during low tide by cutting the upper parts of the fronds, allowing the plant to regenerate. After harvesting, the kelp is naturally sun-dried or gently dehydrated at low temperatures to preserve its minerals, vitamins (notably iodine), and bioactive compounds. Once dried, it can be processed into powder. It is most commonly used as powder for human consumption or skincare. Organic Canadian kelp has a mildly salty, briny flavour with earthy and umami undertones, reflecting its oceanic origin.

Canadian Kelp Smoothie

Add 1-2 teaspoons Canadian kelp powder, 1 cup of milk and 1 banana to a blender. Blend until it becomes smooth and creamy (about 30–60 seconds). Taste and adjust sweetness or texture if needed. Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately.

Culinary Uses

– Add ½ teaspoon to soups, broths, or sauces while simmering to enrich flavour and nutrient content.

– Mix with sesame seeds, herbs, and dried garlic or onion to create a mineral-rich shaker blend.

– Mix into spice blends or rubs for seafood or roasted vegetables.

Skin Care

Mix 1 teaspoon kelp powder with enough water, rosewater, or aloe vera gel to form a smooth paste. Apply to clean face, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for 10–15 minutes, then rinse with warm water and follow with moisturizer.

Storage: To store Organic Canadian Kelp Seaweed Powder, place it in an airtight container and keep it in a cool, dry, and dark location, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and strong odors. This helps preserve its nutrients, prevent clumping, and maintain freshness over time.
