Description

Latin Name: Rosa Canina L.

Common Names: Dog Rose, Wild Rose, Briar Rose

Origin Country: Bulgaria

Rosa Canina L., commonly known as rosehip or dog rose, is a wild species of rose native to Europe, northwest Africa, and western Asia. It belongs to the Rosaceae family. The plant is a deciduous shrub with arching stems covered in small, hooked thorns. Its leaves are pinnate with five to seven leaflets, and it blooms in late spring to early summer with pale pink to white flowers, each having five petals. Rosa canina is most famously known for its bright red-orange fruits, called rosehips, which develop in the autumn. Rose hips are brewed into herbal teas, jams, jellies, and even soups in traditional cuisines. The flavour of rosehips is tangy, slightly sweet, and tart, often compared to cranberries or hibiscus.
