Red Pepper Flakes is the Balkan version of paprika, but comes exclusively from a mix of peppers from the Capsicum Annum family. They are not made of one type of chilli, but from various combinations of ancho, bell, cayenne and more which are used whole, dried or in vinegar, in the Chinese cuisine of Sichuan.
Hot peppers remain firmly on top of medicinal herbs. They originate from Central and South America and their healing properties are among the most suitable for treating various health problems.
- Like all red chili peppers, red pepper flakes is a source of carotenoids including beta carotene. Carotenoids are antioxidants that fight the free radicals known to cause serious diseases like cancer and heart disease.

If your crushed red pepper is hot enough, you can use it to make a decent hot sauce. Simply combine with vinegar and your preferred seasonings and cook it or let it sit for a few days then grind in a food processor or blender for a smooth texture.
Red Pepper Flakes is used in sauerkraut, tripe, soups, boiled and grilled. It goes well with bean soup, it is also added to yellow cheeses and cold cuts for a more spicy taste.
Combines well with oregano, marjoram, basil, parsley, garlic and pepper.
Do not touch your eyes and face if you have used Red Pepper Flakes because you will feel burning. If you do, rinse with vinegar or wine.
Avoid Red Pepper Flakes if you have open sores in the area of the pharynx, esophagus or gastrointestinal tract due to its caustic action.
Excessive consumption of chilli causes sweating and increases the risk of stomach cancer.
