Schisandra isn’t typically used as a food. But it has been used for medicinal purposes throughout Asia and Russia for generations.

Schisandra is used for a wide range of health – related issues such as depression, anxiety and stess. It also may be capable to treat liver conditions, stomach disorders, and as a tonic to improve vitality. Furthermore, it is used in various formulas for fatigue and sleep.

Schizandra Berries used to treat some lung symptoms. Schisandra extract may enhance skeletal muscle strength, but it did not affect muscle mass.

To make schisandra berry tea at home, simmer 1 to 2 Tblsp. of the dried berries in 2 cups of water in a small, covered saucepan for 15 to 20 minutes. This will yield a much more medicinal and flavourful cup of tea than simply pouring boiled water over the herb.

Schisandra fruit is POSSIBLY SAFE when taken by mouth appropriately. Although Schisandra may reduce the effectiveness of some drugs or increase their adverse effects. Patients should talk with their doctors about the possibility of such drug interactions.
