Description

Latin Name : Camellia Sinensis

Origin Country: China

White tea is made from Camellia sinensis. What makes this particular tea unique is the processing method. The leaves are naturally withered and dried in the sun. So this particular tea is actually lightly oxidised because the oxidation starts immediately after the leaves are harvested. This tea normally has a lower caffeine content and contains more antioxidants than green tea.

Some of the most important potential benefits of white tea include:

–  Boosting immune system: Just like green tea, white tea is also rich in EGC, an important catechin linked to many health benefits. Polyphenols in white tea may help fight free radicals and prevent the cell damage.

–  Anti inflammatory properties: White tea might reduce the risk of inflammation and risk of other diseases related to inflammation.

– Anti aging properties: White tea has gained popularity as a beauty tea. This tea type may have a ”potential anti-ageing activity via inhibition of collagenase and elastase” and may help to protect the skin cells from the sun damage.

–  Benefits for oral health: Drinking white tea in the absence of toothbrush could be a good way of preventing bacteria from invading the mouth. Moreover, white tea is less likely to stain teeth because it contains less tannins than black or green tea, a compound responsible for staining teeth.

–  Helps You Lose Weight: The caffeine and catechins in white tea help burn fat.  White tea extract was able to stimulate fat breakdown and prevent new fat cells from forming. This was thanks to the EGCG (a type of catechin) in the tea.

– Helps Fight Cancer: White tea’s antioxidants and polyphenols help fight cancer cells. They attack cancer cells but also protect the healthy cells from DNA damage.

The usual amount is three to five cups a day. Tea can block the absorption of iron from fruits and vegetables so it should be drunk between meals or add a little lemon. Ιnfusion: place 1-2 teaspoons of dried herb in a tea infuser or teapot or mug for each cup of tea you intend to brew. Cover with boiling water. (Water temperature for infusion: 65-70oC) Place on the lid (or cover your cup with a saucer). Allow the mixture to steep for 1.5' to 2' minutes. Then strain the tea and serve. Drink 3-5 cups of tea a day. Add if you want honey, milk or lemon wedge for flavour.
No side effects have been observed. White tea is considered safe. Only people with iron deficiency are advised to drink white tea 3-4 hours before and / or after eating because tea does not help absorb iron.
