Boswellia papyrifera, commonly known as paper frankincense, is a species of tree native to the dry regions of the Horn of Africa, particularly in Ethiopia. Boswellia papyrifera belongs to the Anacardiaceae family, which is well-known for its frankincense-producing species. This tree is best known for producing frankincense resin, which has been highly valued for centuries for its aromatic and medicinal properties. The resin, when harvested, is used in incense, perfumes, and traditional medicine. Frankincense provides one of the most evocative scents in the long history of aromatics. Its fresh, fruity, pine-lemon bouquet with delicately sweet, resinous and woody undertones, slows and deepens breathing and has been used since ancient times.

Burn small pieces of frankincenses on charcoal discs or in an incense burner. Use small pieces of resin to avoid overwhelming smoke. Make sure the room is ventilated, especially if you’re sensitive to smoke. Never leave burning incense unattended.  Use heat-resistant surfaces to prevent damage.

Papyrifera Tea

Only after consult with a healthcare professional, boswellia resin can be ground into a powder and used in various ways, such as mixing it into food or beverages. Add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of papyrifera resins a cup of hot water. Let it steep for 5–10 minutes. Strain the liquid if needed. Optionally, add honey, lemon, or ginger to taste.

 

Storage: Store frankincense resin tears in an airtight glass or plastic container, keeping it in a cool, dry, and dark place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources to maintain its fragrance and integrity. To preserve its quality for a longer time, avoid exposure to moisture and ensure the container is tightly sealed after each use.
