Despite its name, allspice isn’t a universal blend of multiple spices. It is actually the dried unripe berry of the Pimenta dioica tree, which is indigenous to an area of the Caribbean.

The allspice is enriched with the good amount of minerals like potassium, manganese, iron, copper,selenium, and magnesium.

The active principles in the allspice found to have been anti-inflammatory, rubefacient (warming and soothing), carminative and anti-flatulent properties.

–  Allspice contains health benefiting essential oils such as eugenol, that gives it a strong, distinctive taste. It has local anesthetic and antiseptic properties, hence useful in gum and dental treatment procedures.

You can use the allspice berries as a spice. Because it has such a unique and multi-dimensional flavor profile, it pairs well with both sweet and savory dishes. You can drop a few dried allspice berries into your mulled wine or tea while brewing to add a deep, warm flavor to it. A pinch of ground spice sprinkled into curries, soups or stews gives them a more rounded flavor. Decoction: In a pot, bring 3 cups of cold water, 2-3 teaspoons of allspice berries to a simmer. Gently decoct (simmer) for 30 minutes. Strain out herbs and return liquid to pot. . Drink 1-3 cups of tea a day.
