Description

Antimicrobial: All types of mastic gum have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, and it has long been used in the treatment of skin disorders and other infections.  Historically mastic gum was even used to treat bronchial infections.

Ulcers and H. pylori: Mastic gum has been shown to help eliminate H. pylori in the digestive tract, a bacterium that can cause gastritis and peptic ulcers.  Interestingly, supplementation for only 2 weeks has been shown to benefit peptic ulcers, by reducing symptoms and helping to promote healing.

Dental Health: Chewing mastic gum can reduce bacterial plaque in the mouth by up to 41%.  It has been shown to help prevent tooth decay and gingivitis as well.  This is likely why mastic gum was used for thousands of years to freshen the breath.  Of note for current health, good oral health is tightly linked with digestive and cardiovascular health.

Cholesterol Regulation: Regular consumption of mastic gum has been clinically shown to reduce cholesterol levels, which can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Use in confectionery: Crush pieces of mastic with sugar in a mortar or blender until it becomes a powder Use in cooking: Crush pieces of mastic with a little salt in a mortar or blender For gastrointestinal problems: In a 1/2 liter bottle of water, pour 2-3 medium pieces of mastic. We leave them all night and the next day, drink until the water runs out. The pieces of mastic can be chewed during the day. This mastic water is very beneficial for the stomach and also for the intestine. Recipe for stomach ulcer: We drink every morning 1/2 kg of mastic powder with 1/2 glass of water for 3 months or more if necessary. Mouthwash: Make a decoction by pouring 1 tbsp of calendula flowers into a cup of boiling water. Leave covered for 15 minutes. Strain it and let it cool a bit. Pour in 10-12 drops of mastic oil and rinse to protect your oral health.
Although no side effects have been reported from the use of mastic, however, it is advisable not to use it excessively, since if we exaggerate its quantity, its taste becomes bitter.
