Iris (cocktail, iris, chicken root) is a perennial plant of the Iris family, characterized by numerous medicinal properties widely used in traditional medicine and pharmaceutical industry.

• Great Antiseptic: The essential minerals and the oils provide a healing effect to the person and act as great antiseptics. Various types of burns, scars   are done away through an application of orris powder.

Decoction: In a pot, bring 3 cups of cold water, 3-4 teaspoons of orris to a simmer. Gently decoct (simmer) for 30 minutes. Strain out herbs and return liquid to pot. . Drink 1-3 cups of tea a day. Add if you want one spoonful of honey at a time and dissolve over very low heat until you reach desired sweetness. For external use the decoction is prepared by boiling two tablespoons of dry herb for 3 to 5 minutes. Strain it and use it for washes and baths.

Orris seems to be safe for most people when taken by mouth. There are no known side effects if the root is carefully peeled and dried. In any case you should consult with your healthcare doctor before using any herb especially if you’re taking other medications or having health problems.
