Description

Latin Name: Montmorillonite

Common Names: Bentonite

Origin Country: Greece

Montmorillonite also known as Bentonite Clay is a natural clay mineral that belongs to the smectite group. Bentonite named after the Montmorillon region of France, where it was first discovered.

This clay, intended for internal and external use, is derived from volcanic ash dehydration. It contains over 70 trace elements and the largest quantities worldwide come from the USA.

Montmorillonite has a soft, earthy texture and can swell significantly when exposed to water, making it highly absorbent and adhesive. Some people use this paste for medical or cosmetic benefits and for consumption. Montmorillonite clay is generally flavourless and odourless. In rare cases, when consumed in small amounts, it might have a slight earthy or mineral-like taste, but this is not a characteristic flavour.

– Facial Mask

Mix 1-2 tablespoons of bentonite powder with water to form a smooth paste. Apply it evenly to your face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. This can help reduce oiliness of the skin.

Use 1-2 times a week for best results.

– Montmorillonite Smoothie

Add 1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon of bentonite clay powder into your smoothie. Blend well and drink. This method is a convenient way to incorporate the clay into your daily routine while masking its flavour with fruits or other ingredients.

Tip:

Start with a smaller dose and gradually increase the amount as your body gets used to it.

Storage: Keep it in an airtight container, preferably made of glass, ceramic, or food-grade plastic, to prevent contamination and moisture absorption. Store the container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and humidity—such as a pantry or cupboard. Avoid using metal containers or utensils, as bentonite clay can interact with metal and lose some of its beneficial properties. Always use a clean, non-metal spoon when scooping it out. When stored properly, bentonite clay powder can remain stable and usable for several years.
