Description

Latin Name: Sideritis Raeseri

Origin Country: Greece

Sideritis raeseri, commonly known as Greek mountain tea, is a perennial herb native to the Mediterranean region, particularly found in mountainous areas of Greece, Albania, and North Macedonia. It belongs to the Lamiaceae family (the mint family), which includes many aromatic herbs. The plant has woolly, grey-green leaves and tall flowering stems that produce small yellowish flowers in dense clusters. It thrives in rocky, high-altitude environments and is traditionally hand-harvested from the wild or cultivated in herbal gardens. The tea made from its dried flowers and stems has a mild, earthy, floral, and slightly sweet flavour, often enjoyed plain or with honey and lemon.

Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of the dried herb to a cup of boiling water and allow it to steep for 5 to 10 minutes, either by pouring hot water over it or by gently boiling the herb directly in water. Once brewed, the tea is strained and served warm, often sweetened with honey or enhanced with lemon or a cinnamon stick. This caffeine-free herbal tea is enjoyed for its earthy, slightly floral flavour and is commonly consumed 1 to 3 times a day for its calming and antioxidant properties. To maintain freshness, the dried herb should be stored in an airtight container away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight.
