Description

Latin Name : Hamamelis Virginiana

Witch hazel is derived from the leaves and bark of Hamamelis virginiana, a type of shrub that is native to North America. It is a compound with powerful medicinal properties that can be used in a variety of ways.

–  Witch hazel contains tannins, a type of natural compound with astringent effects. By acting as an astringent, witch hazel helps to constrict skin tissue.

–  Witch hazel is widely known for its ability to ease inflammation and soothe sensitive skin.

–  It is, also, often used as a natural remedy to provide relief from the discomfort and pain caused by hemorrhoids.

–  Applying a bit of witch hazel to your scalp before washing your hair may help treat scalp sensitivity and provide relief from symptoms, such as itching and tenderness.

–  Thanks to its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, some research suggests that witch hazel could be useful in the treatment of acne.

Infusion: Place 1-2 teaspoons of dried herb in a tea infuser or teapot or mug for each cup of tea you intend to brew. Cover with boiling water. Place on the lid (or cover your cup with a saucer). Allow the mixture to steep for 10 'to 15' minutes or overnight. Then strain the tea and serve. Decoction: In a pot, bring 3 cups of cold water, 3-4 teaspoons of the herb to a simmer. Gently decoct (simmer) for 30 minutes. Strain out herbs and return liquid to pot.
Although witch hazel is generally considered safe to use medicinally, consuming more than the recommended dosage may cause liver and stomach irritation problems. In any case you should consult with your doctor before using any herb especially if you have health problems.
