Description

Latin Name :Inula Helenium

Origin Country: Serbia

Elecampane originates from Asia where it has been cultivated since antiquity due to the known healing properties of the root. Inula is a special tonic for the respiratory system, the immune system and most organs of our body with great results.

–  Laxative properties: In modern herbal medicine Inoula is used mainly for the treatment of disorders of the respiratory system. It can be used where there is a strong runny nose such as bronchitis or emphysema, due to its expectorant and anti-spasmodic properties, which make it ideal for the treatment of cough and bronchitis.

–  Antimicrobial action: Expectoration is accompanied by a soothing effect, which in this particular herb is combined with an antimicrobial action. The active ingredients helenin and allantolactone contained in the herb are powerful antiseptics and bactericides.

–  Respiratory infections: It can be used in asthma and bronchial asthma and in general all respiratory infections. The action of Inula in the lungs is warming and expectorant. The volatile oils (about 4%) contained in the herb help to eliminate concentrated phlegm from the respiratory tract.

– Digestive tonic: The bitter element it contains stimulates digestion and regulates appetite.

Infusion: Place 1-2 teaspoons of dried herb in a tea infuser or teapot or mug for each cup of tea you intend to brew. Cover with boiling water. Place on the lid (or cover your cup with a saucer). Allow the mixture to steep for 10' to 15' minutes or overnight. Then strain the tea and serve. Drink 1-3 cups of tea a day. Decoction: In a pot, bring 3 cups of cold water, 3-4 teaspoons of the root to a simmer. Gently decoct (simmer) for 30 minutes. Strain out herbs and return liquid to pot. . Drink 1-3 cups of tea a day. Add if you want one spoonful of honey at a time and dissolve over very low heat until you reach desired sweetness.
Although Elecampane is generally considered safe to use medicinally, consuming more than the recommended dosage may cause vomiting, diarrhea, spasms, and paralysis. Elecampane may cause an allergic reaction in people who are sensitive to the Asteraceae/Compositae plant family. Members of this family include ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, daisies, and many others. If you have allergies, be sure to check with your healthcare provider before taking elecampane. In any case you should consult with your healthcare doctor before using any herb especially if you’re taking other medications or having health problems.
