Horny goat weed is probably one of the most popular herbs used for the treatment of low male libido. It is not just used as an herbal sexual stimulant for men but also used for the same purpose with women
- It has been used as an herbal remedy for bronchitis, asthma, antibacterial, antirheumatic, antitussive, hypoglycemic, tonic, and vasodilator.
- Herbalists have used it to naturally lower blood sugar levels, to treat lumbago, arthritis, numbness and weakness of the limbs.
- Horny goat weed is thought to be able to increase levels of epinephrine, norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine and could be effective as an herbal remedy for anxiety and stress.
- The effects of hay fever, which is caused by allergens in the air, are supposed to be lessened when the person consumes a mixture of horny goat weed and other herbs such as ginger, licorice, nettle and butterbur.
- The effects of atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, can supposedly be minimized when horny goat weed is combined with other herbs like garlic and green tea.
To make an infusion, place one tablespoon of dried herbs into a ceramic teapot, mug or mason jar for each cup of tea you intend to brew. Cover with boiling water. Place on the lid (or cover your cup with a saucer) and let steep for 10-15 minutes or overnight.
Most people seem to tolerate short-term use of horny goat weed fairly well.It may cause upset stomach and dry mouth. In some people, horny goat weed may cause irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, nosebleeds and mood changes. High doses have been linked to spasms and respiratory failure.
