Origin Country: Poland

Plantain contains fiber, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus, zinc and copper, as well as vitamins A, C and K.

Eating plantain leaves and drinking plantain tea help to provide relief from constipation. Plantain has laxative properties, and its leaves when eaten also contain plenty of fiber to get things moving again.

When ingested, it is believed that plantain leaves enables frequent urination.  This allows the body to eliminate toxins from the kidneys and bladders.

Plantain leaves have antiseptic properties and can be used topically to promote the healing of damaged skin, reduce skin inflammation, stop bleeding, reduce pain and prevent secondary infections of wounds.

Plantain helps to reduce mucus secretion in the airways, which makes it helpful in treating colds, catarrh, sinusitis, lung and bronchial allergic conditions such as hay fever and asthma.

To make an infusion, place 1-2 teaspoons of dried herb in a tea infuser or teapot or mug for each cup of tea you intend to brew. Cover with boiling water. Place on the lid (or cover your cup with a saucer). Allow the mixture to steep for 10' to 15' minutes or overnight. Then strain the tea and serve. Drink 1-3 cups of tea a day. Add if you want honey, milk or lemon wedge for flavour.
Although plantain is generally considered safe to use medicinally, consuming more than the recommended dosage may cause a fall in blood pressure and diarrhea. It may cause allergies. In any case you should consult with your healthcare doctor before using any herb especially if you’re taking other medications or having health problems.
