Origin Country: Morocco
Iris germanica, commonly known as the Bearded Iris got its name from the small, soft “beards” that protrude from the lower petals of the flowers. It is part of the Iridaceae family and is one of the most popular ornamental iris species. It is a flowering perennial plant native to Europe and parts of western Asia. It is traditionally used in the perfume industry, which is known for its pleasant, floral fragrance. The orris root has a sweet, floral, and slightly woody flavour with a subtle spicy undertone.

Use this softened end to rub against your teeth and gums for a mild cleaning effect. Spit out any residue and rinse your mouth with water.
– Perfumery Use:
Orris root is widely used in making perfumes as a fixative. It can be added to homemade perfumes or potpourri for its long-lasting aroma. Simply place small amounts of the dried root in a jar, allowing it to infuse oils or other fragrances.
It can be placed in sachets, potpourri, or aromatic pouches to create a pleasant scent for drawers, closets, or rooms.
– Iris germanica is considered safe for use in moderate amounts.
– Excessive doses of orris root can cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea or to more serious symptoms such as dizziness, lethargy.
– Inhaling powdered or dried root can irritate the respiratory tract, leading to coughing or difficulty breathing in sensitive individuals.
